We are now offering guided tours around Taunton’s First World War-related sites as part of the centenary project ‘Somerset Remembers’.
Led by volunteers, the tours take in sites such as the Vivary Park War Memorial, Jellalabad Barracks and St Mary Magdalene Church, as well as Castle Green, Shire Hall and the Municipal Buildings.
The tours take place on Tuesday afternoons at 2.00 pm and on Saturday mornings at 11.00 am, and cost £3.00. Tours will meet and depart from the museum.
Volunteer Gill Young said: “This has been a fantastic project to work on and I’m really excited to be taking the museum out to the town. We’ve worked as a team to research the history of Taunton during the First World War and have hopefully created an interesting and enjoyable story.”
The tours are part of the Somerset Remembers project, the county-wide project to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. For further information visit: www.somersetremembers.wordpress.com
